How to get the PDF from HSBC
- Log in to HSBC online banking and open the account.
- Open Statements and download the PDF for the period you need.
- Drop that file into the box above.
What a HSBC statement looks like inside
This is the part most converters get wrong, so it is worth knowing what happens to your file.
- UK statements write dates as DD/MM - the converter detects that automatically, and you can force it in the settings panel if a file is ambiguous.
- HSBC lists money out and money in as two separate columns, with the balance on the right. Empty cells are normal: each transaction fills only one of the two.
- Because the amounts are printed without a minus sign, the converter works out the direction from how the balance moves, and tells you when it could not.
Checked, not claimed: Tested on a UK-style statement with separate paid out and paid in columns: signs come out correct on every row, including the first one where there is no previous balance to compare against.
Sort code and account number lines sit above the table and are ignored. Nothing from the header ends up in your spreadsheet.
