How to get the PDF from American Express
- Log in to americanexpress.com and open the card.
- Open Statements and Activity and download the PDF.
- Drop that file into the box above.
What a American Express statement looks like inside
This is the part most converters get wrong, so it is worth knowing what happens to your file.
- Card statements have no running balance column, so the converter cannot check itself against one - and it says so on screen instead of quietly guessing.
- Each line often carries two dates (when the charge happened and when it posted). Only the first goes into your spreadsheet; the second is not treated as part of the description.
- Payments and credits are printed with a minus sign or in brackets, and both are read correctly.

Amex statements include a lot of explanatory text around the table. Legal footers and how-to-read blocks are cut out of descriptions.
